5-HTP, or 5-hydroxytryptophan, is the immediate precursor of serotonin. Low levels of serotonin are associated with sleep problems, depression, anxiety, compulsive disorders (including eating disorders), restless leg syndrome, migraines, fibromyalgia, and low pain threshold.
